Small Business Spotlight: Lace, Grace, and Peonies

One of the greatest privileges of running a small business is the opportunity to support other small businesses. From the time I began Hazen at the age of 9, I have encountered many people who have supported me in my work and the pursuit of my aspirations for this business. Those are the individuals who have forever influenced and shaped my life by instilling in me the courage to pursue my dreams, and oftentimes, opening the doors through which I could best pursue those dreams.

My hope for our Small Business Spotlight series is to open doors for other small business owners who are hustling daily to grow their businesses. I am confident that they believe their products bring life, creativity and joy to both themselves and their customers, and I hope we not only encourage them through this series but also nurture their success using the tools and opportunities we have graciously been given.
Humbly,
Taylor Turner

Q: When did you develop a love for working with marble and creating coasters?

A: Painting coasters provided me a sense of peace amid my chaotic daily life. I was working a full-time job that was incredibly stressful and needed an outlet. I found solitude in painting and felt excitement in building a brand. Two and a half years after the creation of my business, I was able to quit my day job to pursue my business full-time.

Q: What materials do you use in your work?

A: I take great pride in the quality of materials used to create the coasters. I import the highest quality tumbled marble from Turkey. Each piece of marble is unique in its own right through veining and movement through the stone. I then hand stamp and hand paint the coasters using watercolors and seal them to ensure the art is protected. I then fully cork the back to protect furniture.

Q: From where do you draw your inspiration?

A: I just strive to create designs that make people smile. Whether it is a dog coaster that looks like their dog or a beautiful flower that makes a customer happy, that is where I draw inspiration. It is probably also why I have over 700 designs, ha!

Q: Any business leaders or artists that inspire or influence you and your brand?

A: I am honestly just inspired by all small business owners. We have a tight knit community in Arizona and every person inspires me. No one truly understands the absolute highs and horrible pitfalls than other small business owners.

Q: What can we look forward to seeing from your brand in the near future?

This year I am working on some fun engraved coasters that will be customizable. I am also working on some fun spring designs. Hint… think block prints.
