Small Business Spotlight: Autumn Arissa

Autumn Arissa
Q: When did you develop a love for painting?
AA: Ever since I was little, I’ve always been so inspired to create. Every birthday or Christmas growing up, I would ask for paint sets, markers, any sort of medium I could get my hands on. I took art classes at a studio every summer growing up which only grew my love for painting. It wasn’t until college that I realized I could turn my passion for painting into a business.

Q: What materials do you use in your work? Paints, canvas, paper, etc?
AA: I use acrylics on most of my works, mixing in oil sticks, watercolors, and gel mediums for texture. I like to mix it up as far as surfaces for each new collection, whether that be canvases, paper, canvas panels, etc. There is something to be said about a classic, customized canvas piece though.

Q: From where do you draw your inspiration?
AA: Growing up on the coast of Mississippi, I’ve always been drawn to the cool and calming colors of the beach. I may be a city girl now, but when I’m painting, I’m mentally somewhere near the water. I think that is reflected in the color palette I use and the serene, yet playful energy that my pieces give off.

Q: Playing with colors and textures excites us when designing jewelry. What excites you when painting?
AA: Honestly the exact same thing! Along with dreaming up new ideas of what to paint next. My new collection incorporates pieces of fabric onto the canvas to add texture and it’s so exciting!

Q: Any business leaders or artists that inspire or influence you and your brand?
AA: I also work in Interior Design and am constantly influenced by the women in the industry and the colors and patterns that clients choose for their home. It’s really neat being able to show people how a piece of art can tie the entire design scheme together.

Q: What can we look forward to seeing from your brand in the near future?
AA: I certainly have many ideas up my sleeve and am constantly brainstorming my next move. I would love to continue incorporating my art in with beautiful interiors and hopefully you will see a fabric line from me in the near future!
