Real Hazen Bride: Catherine Callas

Catherine Hay and Peter Callas wed on May 11, 2019 in Napa Valley surrounded by friends and family for an intimate, relaxed and romantic wedding ceremony and reception.

What provided the most inspiration for your wedding?

Peter and I got engaged just before moving to the Bay Area and came across Calistoga Ranch while casually looking at places to visit in Napa Valley. When we first visited, we immediately fell in love with the venue and the charming town of St. Helena. Tucked into a private canyon in the Upper Napa Valley, Calistoga Ranch celebrates the natural beauty of the region. The incredible vista from one location on the property, the lawn, inspired much of the day. The scenery of the tranquil lake in one direction, complemented by the grassy hills of Napa Valley in the other provided an incredibly picturesque setting for our celebration. We wanted to honor the space by keeping the decorations relatively simple and set a long farm table for an al fresco dinner under string lights and candlelight as the sun set. We really wanted it to feel like an intimate dinner party with friends and family and delicious food, endless California wine, and a great view.

For the Rehearsal Dinner, the bride wore the Elizabeth Earring

What aspect of wedding planning was most exciting to you?

I really loved picking out the flowers for our day. We used an amazing florist, This Humble Abode, who was able to capture what we wanted using local and seasonal flowers. I wanted the design to be organic, lush, and romantic, with a touch of modern aesthetic. We chose white blooms that were layered with green foliage to incorporate movement in a loose and asymmetrical way that allowed for the natural gesture of each bloom or branch.  We incorporated Peonies, which my mother and I both love, along with Ranunculus, Tranquility Garden Rose, and seasonal Spirea to add texture and new shape. Delicate Sweet Peas were included in the boutonnieres and bouquets since Peter’s family nickname was “sweet pea” growing up. And lastly, my something blue came from white Anemones with blue centers in my bouquet. It was fun to be able to incorporate these personal touches into the flowers for our wedding.

What made you decide on Hazen for your big day?

I’ve been friends with Taylor for almost my entire life and she has always had impeccable style - even when we were little! Hazen was some of the first jewelry I ever owned and I’ve loved watching how the brand has evolved over the years. I’ve worn Hazen jewelry for almost all of the major moments in my life (the Annie Necklace is in every graduation photo), and so it was a natural choice to include Hazen pieces in my wedding. Taylor worked with me to pick out the perfect pieces for each of my bridesmaids based on their unique style and bridesmaid dress. I loved the Elizabeth earrings that I wore as a bridesmaid in Taylor’s wedding just a few months earlier, so I also wore those for our rehearsal dinner and welcome reception. It was so fun to work with Taylor and be able to incorporate Hazen into this big moment and I am so grateful for the thought and time Taylor put into the entire experience.

The bridesmaids alternated in wearing the Patricia earring and the Clara earring.
