Mother Knows Best with Pamela Munson

Q: What is something you learned from your mother that you hold close or try to emulate in motherhood?

PM: I remember my mother being sunny as a child and I try now to highlight the bright spots for my children, staying positive and pointing out the beauty in life.

Q: What is one of your favorite things about being a mom?

PM: With three children, every day is an adventure! I love watching their personalities develop and to nurture them. It’s my responsibility to help them unleash their passions and find their individual magic, strengths, and talents. I am a dreamer so my hope for them is to chase their dreams and live a life of purpose.

Q: How has motherhood influenced your inspiration and work?

PM: Having my first daughter, Beatrix, really pushed me to pursue my passions and break from a traditional corporate path to pursue my business idea of launching a straw handbag brand. Motherhood ignites your senses and pushes you to be better and do more.

Q: What is one of your proudest moments as a mom?

PM: To be fair, my children have the ability to dazzle me and drive me insane almost daily. Recently, I was amazed by how brave my girls were at the height of the pandemic. Living in NYC, the fear and unknown of Covid was palpable in the spring of 2020. Most New Yorkers fled, we stayed as a family in the city. Having to wear a mask, socially distance, ride elevators alone was all new territory for us as adults and for my daughters who were five and two at the time. I was impressed by their fortitude in navigating remote learning, being separated from friends, having their routines completely disrupted and then entering the classroom the following year resuming some semblance of normalcy.

Q: Any life hacks or advice you would pass on to other moms?

PM: Be open to accepting help and remember to take care of YOU! As women, we try to do it all but if someone is offering to help take it. I find that I am a better mom if I have time for myself – whether it be working, talking on the phone with a friend, taking a walk, or dinner with my husband – I come back to my children feeling refreshed, energized and a better version of myself.
